Below is a description of how data is collected by OCHNA.
Data Collection
Primary Data Collection
The Orange County Health Needs Assessment performs a survey
of Orange County’s health needs every three years for
the people of Orange County and the hospitals and organizations
that serve them. The survey is created by using the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention’s Behavioral Risk
Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) as the core module and
additional questions based on the OCHNA Steering Committee’s
recommendations. The BRFSS is a valuable and proven instrument
used in the field for the past twenty years and continues
to be the basis for state and local needs assessments.

Secondary Data Collection
The Health Care Agency
of Orange County provides OCHNA with their objective data
report which will be made available as part of the overall
OCHNA report along with the primary data collected from the
health needs survey. The objective data report covers deaths,
births, major diseases and injuries, as well as other important
demographic information.
Data Analysis &
Report Generation and Dissemination
A report will be available after each survey and will include
statistical analysis of conditions and trends for Orange County
. The report will undergo rigorous review and be widely distributed
to providers and stakeholders. OCHNA will make it available
to business leaders, policy makers and community based organizations
that have the potential to create programs to improve the
health status of the county.
